Magnificent Views from Valletta
Perched atop a sun-drenched peninsula, Valletta, Malta’s capital, commands breathtaking panoramic views of the shimmering Mediterranean from every vantage point.
The Upper Barrakka Gardens and its terraced arches date back to 1661 and were once the private gardens of the Knights of St. John. The gardens are the highest point in the walled city and offer beautiful views of the Grand Harbor, the Three Cities, and the lower-lying parts of the capital.
Framed by an arch of the gardens, the view reveals the imposing Fort St. Angelo, once protecting the Grand Harbour.

The Saluting Battery is as old as the City itself, having been built as part of it in 1556. In addition to its defensive role, the battery has long played a ceremonial function. Gun salutes were fired to greet dignitaries and to celebrate religious holidays.
The Lower Barrakka Gardens overlook the entrance to the Grand Harbour. Cargo ships, cruise liners, naval vessels, ferries, and pleasure boats all set sail from the Grand Harbour into the Mediterranean.
Even the young pause to take in the view.
