Spanning the Ohio River, the Roebling Bridge was the longest suspension bridge in the world when it opened to traffic in 1867. Declared a National Historic Landmark in 1975, it was painted blue in 1976 to celebrate the Nation’s bicentennial.
John Roebling’s son, Washington, built the famed Brooklyn Bridge, a two-tiered, double-wide version of this bridge.
